Only Memories

The scent of melting wax filled the air
as the candlelight grew dim
She lay there on her bed trying
not to think of him
Try as she may, she could not sleep
the many things they'd said
Kept coming to her sleepless mind
and now she felt so dead
The tears were rolling down her cheeks
as thoughts about the plans
They had made together
are now out of both their hands
Just as the flame was dying out
her hopes were growing dim
How could she bear it day to day
and never be with him
Oh, the mem'ries in her heart
forever she would keep...
Then the candle gave no more light...
then ah...at last, sweet sleep
